Bobbin Thread

How to raise bobbin thread through sewing machine? I have a Singer Merritt 4552?

I have threaded the needle and put the threaded bobbin in the bobbin case and hooked the thread, but i can’t figure out how to pull the thread up . It tells me to just stick the needle through and it will pull the thread up but, the thread is just sitting there and I don’t even see how it’s even possible for it to come up. Please help!

Two gotchas you need to know about:
1) you need to turn the handwheel in the direction that would cause the feed dogs to transport fabric under the presser foot away from you. Check the manual for which direction it is, or put a piece of paper under the presser foot, set up for a long stitch, and try it with an unthreaded machine.

2) Needles have a front side and a backside. If you put the needle in backwards, you’ll usually get skipped stitches because the needle isn’t picking up the bobbin thread. Check the manual to see if you’ve got the needle in right way around (or just try it the other way!) if you can’t fetch up the bobbin thread in a couple of tries.
