Buttons Sewing

Why are the buttons on the sleeves of my suits sewn very close together so they overlap ? Tradition ?

I ve just bought a new suit. The 4 buttons on the sleeves are sewn very close together so they overlap – why is that ? Just a style ? Any other reason ?? Historical bit ??? They could line the buttons up nicely next to each other but instead the sew them on overlapping one another….
I have also noticed this “style” on other suits in my office- not only on mine

Overlap is considered incorrect by most good tailors. I suspect you got “trendy”. From a Savile Row “bespoke” tailor:
