How can I stop my female cat from peeing everywhere?

My wife and I have a 3 year old female cat who uses a litterbox fine, but sometimes pees in corners, on blankets and pillows, and on a futon couch in our basement. We just returned home to find she’s gone again on a quilt inside our newborn’s crib.

If we don’t find a solution soon, we’re going to have to take her back to the shelter. It’s getting out of hand.

First, is the cat fixed? If not, do so right away.

Next, get the cat in to see the vet. They will determine if its behavioural or medical.

If it’s not medical, then it’s time to retrain the family. Pick up all your blankets. Don’t leave pillows out. Close doors to bedrooms. Be sure to clean any spots that you can thoroughly (Natura’s Miracle or similar product) to prevent re-peeing. Remove access to the items and the behaviour will stop.

The thing is, and I know it’s obvious (sorry), animals are animals. There are few that make it through life perfectly. I can’t imagine dumping an animal at the shelter because of potty issues. That’s part of what having animals is all about.
