Exactly how bad is the build-qaulity of the average cookie-cutter homes that you find in America?
My perception is that the planned community, cookie cutter homes that are being thrown up today are rushed, use questionable wood often times, and really don’t have the build qauility one would expect. It is also my understanding that even the larger homes being built by the average person are not better in qaulity than an average size home, it’s just more McHome type wood, drywall etc. Wheras the homes in Europe are built to last using I assume stone, concrete etc. Would one of the arguments be that we don’t need this type of exceptional stone, etc, materials because it would be overkill in terms of price, and that we don’t need a home that will last hundreds of years as is the case in many European homes?
The quality of most range from terrible to pi$$-poor! Having fixed the mistakes made during initial construction on hundreds (no hyperbole) I can say that you are better off buying something built 30+ years ago or building yourself.
Not all homes in Europe are built well either. You are correct in that they use concrete, stone and brick more than we do but cheap contractors and shoddy work prevail around the world. The only saving grace is that there are reputable craftsmen who take pride in their work.
Always ask for references and former satisfied clients before hiring anyone to do work. Also do remember that by looking for the cheapest price you often get the cheapest quality.
