Marimbas and types of wood for keys?

Building a marimba. I know that honduran rosewood and paduk are the most popular for the keys. Does anyone have knowledge or experience using American Cherry or can suggest other alternative woods with tonal qualities.
Your correct about selecting the wood. Its just that I have a good supply of 50 year old cherry boards. After posting I found info that cherry is good for the lower notes but will most likely use honduran rosewood… Thanks

Cherry can be used for marimbas and sound fine, but it is one of the less popular woods because other woods sound better. I don’t know why you would use it, though. you can easily get better woods, such as rosewood, at places that specialize in rare woods. One place that I used was called woodshop, and had any kind of wood you could imagine
