I am a begginer at sewing should I attempt to make a dress?

I know basic stitches and have made a couple projects, mainly pillows. I usually embroider and only use sewing to sew my embroidery project together. Do you think it would be too ambitious to try to make a simple dress? If so what should I do to get the experience I need to make one?

Go to a fabric store and find a pattern of a dress you like. Sit at the chairs they provide for you and look through the instructions on the back and see if there may be something that could cause you a problem and ask the clerk if anyone there can explain how to do it. I never tried to start out doing something easy. I figured if I was going to do it I went with what I wanted. I have made cheer leading outfits for two different school without a pattern for them and have also made several three suits among the many thing I have sewn.
